- Captain Turner 'Joe' Darktide
Oliver Freddy and Inge were having some sweet dreams this night..
They've been a couple since high school and are still going strong
together it seems, so maybe it's time soon to tie the knot... but
they're gonna have to do a little more than just dream about it for
it to happen... I'm their genie, all they need to do is make a wish..
prove it to me, do you really want it?
..but so far, dreams aside, there are no signs of such wishes.
Oliver Freddy is still heavily focused on his studies and figuring
out the connection between humans and plants, and Inge just wants to
socialize and become popular.. the first thing on her mind this
morning is to throw a bonfire party...
While they're eating breakfast doesn't mention her thought of
throwing a party, but instead pretends to ponder what her next
creative art project or book should be as if that is whats keeping
her most occupied these days.. has she forgotten her moms warning
about excessive partying? Maybe she has, or maybe she just doesn't
want to think about it...
Either way, its a pretty nice winter morning as she runs off to
her lecture, something that might have given her inspiration for
another painting or something or other..
Oliver Freddy has, as usual, gone over to the Student Union to do
more research. He puts a few more test tubes of his girlfriends DNA
into the machine to try and squeeze out that extra bit of knowledge
and to further refine his research methods. Learning by doing always
proved to be the most long lasting way. Not neccessarily the most
effective, though..
He is close to mastering science, but there's a way to go before crossing the finish line. It's definately been a long marathon to get here.. he is starting to get a good grasp of how the human DNA works, but plants are still a bit of an unknown, and not to mention how he can combine them to make a living, breathing and moving thing.. this one marathon is just a part of an even longer marathon, one that might take a lifetime to complete...
Working on science is hard and tiring with only tiny rewards here
and there, so after a while he needs to relax by playing a completely
mindless game on the computer...
Inge just finished her lecture, and it looks like todays topic was
"The Art of designing swimming pools: Beauty, Safety and
Convenience." Pool ladder probably included.
She runs over to the Student Union to finally finish off her
scientific novel, "The Gnorb from Demetris IV", and finds
Oliver Freddy sitting there playing computer games, so she goes to
sit right next to him..
I get that wearing thick outdoor clothing can feel a little warm,
but I'm surprised to see that changes into her swimwear before
sitting down.. must have been some thoughts from todays lecture still
lingering in her head... or maybe she's starting to take after her
boyfriend, which typically almost always wears the wrong outfit for
the occasion..
"If he can do it, then so can I".
Perhaps this is a sign of her love and commitment, that she is
willing to walk the extra mile and stand by him no matter how odd he
may appear to anyone else...
Next thing that happens is that Oliver Freddy gets a surprising phone call. Someone has been packing her suitcase..
It's Iselin, Inges mom, she says she's on her way up north and
will arrive in a few hours (!), and she also has a question for
Oliver Freddy..
"Yeah, one
day..." he answers "when we're back in Sunset Valley, a
little more permanently".
Iselin is not to pleased with this answer, and pushes on for him to propose so that they can get married already this summer..
"Umm... well, I'll... think about it.." he
replies again with a lowered voice "..but I'm thinking when
we're done with our degrees, you know.. " before doing his best
to turn the conversation on to more study related things.... Iselin
does not give up so easily though, and asks to meet him when she's
there in just a few hours. Oliver Freddy has no choice but to agree
to this, so he gives her directions to the Grotto and agrees to meet
her there.
While he was talking Inge
just finished the last chapter on her novel where the Gnorb after
years of hardship and intergalactic battles returned to his planet to
reclaim his throne, have his castle rebuilt and marry the love of his
life, have many kids and live happily ever after... or something
along those lines...
Oliver Freddy was proud of her, having completed her second novel already, and he was sure she was well on her way of fulfilling her dream to become an illustrous author and live happily ever after... he congratulated her on her achievement with a solid kiss and was just about to mention that her mom was visiting, but was interrupted by Inge talking about her plans to throw a bonfire party later in the day..
He tried to talk her out of
it, by saying that maybe a bonfire party when it was this cold
outside wasn't the best idea, but Inge insisted that it wouldn't be
an issue... they could just heat themselves up on the bonfire, and if
it really did get to cold, they could just go inside...
Oliver
Freddy knew (or thought he knew) that Iselin would not be happy to
find herself in the middle of a party, given how wild they could
sometimes get, and at the same time he didn't want to put a halt to
Inges plans of having a party so he couldn't make himself bring up
the topic that her mom was visiting.. well, that and he assumed that
she probably knew already, though she didn't... it was her mom
afterall, so why wouldn't she? There wouldn't be any sensible reason
for Iselin to not tell her daughter she was visiting when she had
travelled so far... or would it...?
So... he let her run off to arrange her party, happily in the dark about her mom also being in town, before he sat down to pretend to prepare for his upcoming lecture...
Then as soon as he was sure
she was at home, making all the necessary texts and phone calls to
invite everyone over, he was out the door to head for the Grotto
where Iselin would be waiting...
He didn't have to walk far
into the Grotto to find her either, she was standing right there by
the front door, and once he found her she didn't shy away from
repeating her thoughts about how much she would love for them to get
married..
Oliver Freddy and
Inge, that is of course... She didn't see why they would need to wait
until after they've done with their degrees when they could just get
it done this summer.. She would of course, gladly help them with all
the necessary arrangements and then some..
Oliver Freddy says he'll
think about it. He would have to discuss it with Inge first. Of
course, Iselin does not object there, she thinks she knows her
daughter well enough to know what the answer will be.. "Let's do
it!" And then finally this sweet, young boy will be a member of
their family..
Oliver Freddy begins to feel
like he's in a rush to go to his lecture, which starts soon anyway,
when she mentions that afterwards he could meet her at the hotel to
discuss it further..
"Ummm.... yeah, maybe I'll do that..."
he says awkwardly before excusing himself that he has to leave for
his lecture, just two hours prior to when it starts, but hey, its
better to show up a little early than to be late... right?
Iselin stands by to gawk at
him through the window as he runs off.. he's such a good, good boy
that kid, and she can't wait to have him be a part of their family..
such a sweet, young boy...
Oliver Freddy couldn't run
away from there fast enough.. his time was better spent waiting in
the classroom while rereading todays chapter as an additional
preperation for todays lecture than continuing to hang out with
Iselin.. and he thought it was probably best not to tell Inge about
this encounter...
Sure enough, he could see him getting married
to his sweetheart, and why not this summer like Iselin had
suggested... but at the same time he had to think about it a few more
times over now.. if nothing else, atleast to find a way to keep his
potential future mother-in-law at arms length....
Back at the dorm Inge has been walking around to clean up the dorm before the guests should arrive when the doorbell rings and she has to go downstairs to pick up the pizza she had ordered. While doing so she already wants to begin her next novel, and keeps pondering about good topics to write about but so far nothing seems to come to the surface.. maybe give it a little more time, and inspiration will come..
Billie Jean-Sparks and
Nicole Lawry are the first guests to show up, but Nicole feels
embarrassed for having dressed up for a swimsuit party and quickly
leaves again.. Also, it turns out Oliver Freddy was right earlier
that hosting a bonfire party during winter wasn't the best of ideas –
it couldn't even be done because the snow was to deep... so she had
to make do with a regular pizza eating party instead... Maybe a
little closer to summer she could host a real bonfire
party...
Anyway, she was very pleased
when her best friend and fellow misunderstood soul Samantha Grey
showed up to her party as she walked over to sit down by her
table..
"I got some tickets to 'Lisa Frankenstein' if you want to come watch it with me this Saturday" Samantha said as Inge pulled out the chair to sit down. This was just one of the things Inge loved about Samantha; her fascination for, and ability to laugh at, the darker and more grotesque aspects of life.. and death, and everything else.. Samantha provided a perfect balance in her life to counter Oliver Freddys more scientific approach to everything, of course she would go to the movies with her, not many things could be better.
She loved Samantha
almost as much, or maybe just as much, as she loved Oliver Freddy,
and even if they weren't engaged yet, Samantha had pretty much
already received an invite to their upcoming wedding in Sunset
Valley.. the date just wasn't set yet...
Samantha would really love
that, to go to Sunset Valley and get to know Inges family and all of
her old friends from her school days..
"I'm sorry.. I just have to..." she sobbed while thinking about her old 'friends' from her school days, yeah.. sure.. the mention of that, while picturing her future marriage day made Inge a little emotional again...
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you" Samantha apologized in her usual slightly awkward way when she realized she had made a mishap. Being an outcast in school, sometimes feeling like an outcast in society in general, was one of the main things that united them...
"What I meant was... I would really love to come to your wedding whenever it happens and meet your family. You and Oliver Freddy are such a cute couple, and I think.. you will have nothing but uh.. happiness in your future life.. in your uh.. future.." she continued as she stumbled over her own words.
"Its okay, I forgive you..." Inge said "I suppose the way things happened was meant to be.. after all, if me and my family hadn't move to Sunset Valley because of.. because of the bullies.... I never would have met Oliver Freddy on the school bus.. and I never would have come her to meet.. you..."
Aww... well, after this
sweet emotional moment they both decided they needed to take each
their turn to go for the juice keg and get a drink...
..before all of them
gathered in the tv-room to watch Daniel Vaughn play video games. "We
should all go fishing together again, like we did last summer"
Samantha said "I think I know the perfect bait.."
"...after we have finished our exams, of course. Studying comes first!" she continued with a strict voice all of a sudden, before putting on her outerwear and walking out of the room, thanking Inge for inviting her to the party and repeating that she had to prioritize her studies...
Inge thought she left a
little to sudden.. though it wasn't unusual for Samantha to undergo
rapid transformations, this one left her feeling a little bit
insecure.. how she switched from being friendly, inviting her to the
movies, talking about her future marriage, reminiscing about the old
days and planning their next fishing trip.. to suddenly turning on
her heels and walking out of there.. but Inge thought she understood,
and did her best to give her the benefit of the doubt..
She
hadn't checked the calendar to thoroughly, but this rapid change in
mood probably meant that a full moon was soon on the horizon... she
would have to remember to ask her a little later if she still wanted
to hangout at the cinema...
Oliver
Freddy felt that something would soon be up too, as he left his
lecture with a slight feeling of anxiety.. though his thoughts didn't
go to the celestial bodies, but a different one.. the more he thought
about it, the more he was convinced that Inges mom was acting in a
creepy manner.. calling him and not Inge, inviting him to hang out
and not Inge, and then not so subtly suggesting they go back to her
hotel room... he couldn't tell Inge about this.. and he hoped it
wouldn't happen again...
By the time Oliver Freddy makes it back home to the dorm, Samantha is long gone which is a shame, because in his mind she is such an interesting specimen, from a purely scientific standpoint.. in addition to being a nice buddy for his girlfriend, of course..
Nonetheless, he is pleased
to see that Inges party didn't turn out absolutely crazy, with a
bunch of intoxicated people strewn across the floor because they
passed out and the remaining ones running around naked.. and instead
just finding a group of friends calmly playing video games or
relaxing by making a sketch of one of the bookshelves in the
tv-room...
So he has no issues giving
Walter Fullman a helping hand by the juice keg. One drink never hurt
anyone, atleast not to much...
It was a chill, but enjoyable party.. Inge may have been hoping for a little more action than this, but it was what it was.. and its probably for the better it didn't take off to much, because tomorrow is another long day of studying..
..and she is starting to feel tired, so its time to go to bed. Just gotta remember to feed Ansgar II before falling asleep.. it would be to sad if he were to suffer the same fate as Ansger I...
Oliver Freddy still has some
more energy to use, but decides to relax by his girlfriends side for
a while, without knowing about the unpleasant nightmares she's
having.. what if their future marriage goes wrong somehow, because
some other woman should interfere and foil all her plans of a
happy life... what a terrible dream, but.. it was probably just
that... a dream... let's hope...
After relaxing for a bit,
Oliver Freddy spent the rest of his evening practicing pool and
looking at one of Inges paintings, 'Tragic Bike', whom she had hung
up in the hallway..
With
his literal mind he didn't understand the meaning of painting an
everyday item like a bicycle parked by a bike stand like that, nor
did he grasp the dull use of colours.. what was the point of that? He
would have been much more impressed if she could have made a painting
of all the intricate details of the human DNA.. or better yet, some
time in the future that is, served as an illustrator when he
published his book on how to splice human and plant DNA to create
plantsims.. now that would have impressed him... but this? Meh... not
really.. but he was proud of her nonetheless, because for whatever
reason, this was just the thing that was popular among the so called
art critics and other experts in the field...
Of course, though he didn't understand art.. he did understand that he had a lack of understanding of, well, art... just like she didn't quite get him everytime he talked about how he yearned for spring and summer again, so that he could resume work on his little garden.. and get a few more plant samples to study.. There was a lot of fine art found in botanic literature, he thought to himself as he walked towards their bedroom to join her in resting for the night...
May
spring time come, may the ground thaw and the plants come to
life..
May the fish take the bait as summer draws near...
May
the hour come to see students pass their exams without fear..
..and
may a future arise with a new lawful husband and wife...
Good night.. ;)
